The Freshman Football Team continued their exciting play on Friday
afternoon at Chelmsford high school. The scoring started early when
James Machado hit Shane Poindexter down the sideline to take a 7-0
lead. Chelmsford answered right back on one play, but it didn't take
long for Mike Sarault to get back in the scoring column with a 5 yd.
run of his own. Dracut led 13-7. Chelmsford then took most of the
momentum by scoring on back to back drives to end the half and then
marching down to score on their opening possession of the second half
to go up 24-13. However, that is exactly where Dracut's fortunes
started to turn. The two point conversion attempt was intercepted 2
yards deep in the endzone and returned 102 yards by Shane Poindexter
to bring the score to 24-15. Moments later, Artie Notini returned the
kickoff 70 yards for his second TD return of the year. Out of breath,
he still managed to knock in the Point After to make the score 24-21.
Dracut stopped Chelmsford on the next drive and took the lead on a 7
minute drive that ended with Mike Sarault's romp into the endzone.
The final score was 28-24. The game featured interceptions by Matt
Ferrazzani and two by Shane Poindexter. It also had James Machado
throwing for over 250 yards. Matt Ferrazzani had over 100 yards
receiving.

The Dracut Freshmen continued their run on Friday afternoon with a
14-0 win vs. Haverhill. The scoring started early with a touchdown
pass from James Machado to Shane Poindexter. From there, the defense
took over. There were fumbles forced by Tony Ngeth and Peter Salem
that were subsequently recovered by Matt Jones and Kevin Mulno. The
defense was also highlighted by a huge interception by Artie Notini on
the goal-line, which thwarted a Haverhill bid to tie the score in the
third quarter. Eventually, the offense got going again, as James
Machado was able to find Ryan Schwartz for a touchdown pass and then
Matt Ferrazzani with the conversion. The freshmen football team
improved to 6-1-1.

The Middies staged a remarkable comeback in the final minutes on
Friday. Trailing 8-0 since Billerica?s opening possession, James
Machado got the ball rolling with a short touchdown run.
Unfortunately, Ryan Schwartz was stopped just shy of putting in the
2-point conversion. That led to an on-side kick try which Dracut was
unsuccessful in recovering. That?s when the Middie?s defense went to
work. With outstanding efforts by Jacob MacShane, Mike Sarault, Matt
Ferrazzani, Tony Metzler, and Tony Ngeth, Dracut was able to squelch
any hope that Billerica had of running out the clock. Instead,
Dracut?s offense took over with 2 minutes to play and about 80 yards
to go. Machado was nearly perfect as he orchestrated an incredible
drive to push the Middies in front by a score of 14-8 on a TD pass to
Ryan Schwartz and a 2-pt. Conversion run by Mike Sarault. The Middies
moved to 5-1-1 and take on Haverhill on Friday.

The Freshmen Middies came out on top against Andover on Friday
afternoon. The score stood 7-7 deep into the game. Andover looked as
if they had control as they marched down the field, taking advantage
of some penalties and hard running of their own. Meanwhile, Nick
Dubuque, who had just entered the game at nose tackle, was able to get
some penetration and force Andover into a fumble, which was recovered
by Peter Salem. With just over 4 minutes to play, James Machado hit
Matt Ferrazzani for a 65-yard touchdown reception that was made
possible with a huge block by Shane Poindexter to make the score 13-7.
The Middies got the ball right back after another Andover fumble and
Machado was able to break free for his second score of the game. This
time Dracut was able to convert on the two-point conversion pass from
Machado to Schwartz to make the score 21-7. Andover tacked on a late
score to make the final 21-13.

The Dracut Freshmen showed their resiliency with a win vs. St. John's
Prep on Saturday morning. Things looked dire early as the Eagles
jumped out to a 12-0 lead by returning the opening kick-off and
running their first play from scrimmage into the endzone. However,
Dracut answered back with a score of their own when Ryan Schwartz
broke several tackles for a 45 yard touchdown run of his own. The
score later became 18-6 when the Freshmen Middies were unable to keep
St. John's out of the end zone at the end of the half. Still, the
second half was all Middies. James Machado was able to lead the
Middies with two 5 yard touchdown runs of his own while he also sealed
the win with an interception as time expired. Defensively, the
Middies were incredible and were able to top the Eagles 20-18.

The Freshman Middies bounced
back from a tough loss against
Everett to gain a win against Central Catholic today. They
jumped out
to a 13-0 lead in the first half with a pair of touchdown
passes from
James Machado. The first score came on a 6 yard out to Artie
Notini.
At the end of the half, Machado hit Ryan Schwartz with a 25
yard
strike as time expired. The latter was set up by a long
pass-play
from Machado to Shane Poindexter, that put the Middies in
position to
tack on some points before the half. Machado tossed his third
td of
the game to Mike Sarault to make the score 19-0. Tony Ngeth
put the
finishing touches on a 26-0 win with a 65 yard touchdown run
of his
own. The defense also played well, inspired by the line-play
of Peter
Salem, Tony Metzler and Shane Poindexter.
